At Ousedale we value and understand the importance of working with employers to enhance the knowledge and skills of our students. We are always looking for ways to grow and strengthen our relationships and involve you in creating meaningful learning opportunities for students, as well as promoting your business and the careers available.

“The value that employers bring when they engage with schools is well evidenced. Research shows that young adults who have greater levels of contact with employers whilst at school are significantly less likely to become NEET (not in education, employment or training) and can expect, when in full-time employment, to earn up to 18% more than peers who had no such workplace encounters.

Our new research shows that engagement not only allows employers to add value to schools and the lives of young people, but that young people and schools in turn give huge value to employers.”

Encounters with employers bring the world of work to life for young people, and help to prepare them for the fast-changing world of work. We focus on student’s self-development and awareness, educating them on how their unique skillset relates to different career sectors and roles. The more we can enhance this with work-based learning scenarios and company visits, the further it opens up their imagination and expands their horizons, thus creating drive and ambition.

Areas we focus on during PHSE lessons include:

  • Discussing the qualities and actions that help people to succeed
  • Identifying skills that employers value
  • Learning about Labour Market Information and the impact it can have on career choices
  • Exploring employment trends and changes to occupational sectors
  • Being aware of the impact that technology has on employment sectors

We are always looking for employers who would be interested in working with our students on projects such as:

  • Work experience placements
  • Offering a mentoring programme
  • Attending our campus events and careers fair
  • Running mock assessment centres
  • Apprenticeship providers
  • Giving a talk about your role/business

We are always willing to take on new suggestions so if you have an idea and would like to discuss it further please get in contact.

Plus we are happy to advertise any apprenticeship opportunities or entry level job roles that you think would be suitable for 16 – 18 year olds. This can be done at any time but we strongly recommend that you target the end of the academic year (March onwards) or a role that has a start date of August-September, as this is more appropriate.
