Re: Minor adjustment to school mobile phone protocol
In response to parental feedback and similar actions taken by other schools across the country, we have decided to make a minor adjustment to our mobile phone/ electronic device protocol for students in Year 7 -11.
From Monday 14th January 2019, students will no longer be permitted to use their mobile phones, or other electronic device, in any school building between 8.30 am and 3.05pm. This will mean that students cannot use such devices in the canteens, library or main hall during this time. We appreciate that electronic devices can have some educational value. Therefore, phones and other electronic devices can only be used in class with the teacher’s permission. If students use their phones /electronic devices in the school buildings between the aforementioned times then a member of staff will confiscate them. A scale of consequences has been put in place should a student persistently use their phone or electronic device. Confiscated phones will be placed in reception and, for the first three occasions, students will be able to collect them at the end of the school day. However, should a student’s phone be confiscated for a fourth time then it will only be returned to a parent/carer.
Students have been informed about this minor adjustment during assembly this morning.
I am sure you will want to support the school in taking such action in our bid to promote social inclusion and student wellbeing.
