Proposed Eco Centre - due to open Summer 2011
The Eco Centre is a proposed project to enhance the Science and Geography facilities at Newport Pagnell Campus.
Ousedale School is a specialist technology college which means we offer facilities for primary schools and the local community to use to enhance learning in Maths, Science and Design Technology. The proposed centre will provide a state of the art facility for use by the local community and Ousedale School students during the day and evening. It is being designed using the lastest materials and with regard to the environment and sustainability.
Local residents were invited into school to view the plans prior to the formal planning application being submitted.

A selection of the comments received are listed below:
One resident was concerned as to whether the hedge on Annesley Road side was to remain. Also, any damage to the road, from lorries turning/delivery etc. should be made good as this was a problem with previous building projects. These comments were passed onto our Architect so that they can be included in the plans when they are formally submitted.
Student Comments:
- I like the landscape idea and it will be really good for extra education. Really good idea.
- It’s a good design, will enhance learning and students as will have separate equipment and leaves more space in science block for other lessons.
- The building is a great idea, which will help us learn many interesting subjects.
- I like the idea because it’s new and we can grow lots of plants.
- Quite like the idea of fruit trees and the landscape. It would be good if we could do lessons outside and the building looks good and it’s modern and new!
- I think it will improve our school and I think it will be good to have new learning aspects in our school.

A new area is being created on the school grounds which will benefit many different species of mammals, insects and birds. The area will also be used by students studying ecology and environmental management at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
Year 12 Biology students carried out initial survey work which allowed a detailed plan to be drawn up and priorities for different management strategies identified.
We are creating several new habitats including a copse and a large wildflower meadow. After leaving the meadow to grow during the Spring, it seems that although it already has a few common species present, we have a long way to go!
