Top set year 8 students recently took part in the Junior maths challenge and achieved some excellent results.

In addition, there were 11 Silver and 21 Bronze awarded.

Technology Tournament

On the 12th March 2009 I took twelve pupils to Denbigh School to take part in a Rotary Technology Tournament.  This is an event that takes place once a year and is organised by different Rotary clubs from around Milton Keynes.  The event is held at different schools each year, and it is a chance for every secondary school in Milton Keynes to take part and compete against each other.  They split the judging into three different categories:

The task changes each year; this year the teams had to design, make and test a catapult system. Depending on the level they are entered, there are different tasks they are expected to undertake. For example, the Basic team had to produce the catapult system, while the Intermediate and Advanced teams also had to include a parachute, and then the Advanced teams also had to have a carrier for their catapult.
At the Basic and Intermediate levels there were around fifteen teams.  There were only four Advanced teams.
I was very proud of all the pupils I took with me, they all worked very hard and produced work that was exceptional.

So… I hear you say, what were the results… Well, the Advanced team came a very close 2nd, the Intermediate team came 5th and this was due to an error in their final testing, as up until that point they were top of the leader board.  The ultimate stars though were the Basic team who came 1st (they won it hands down I might add!)
An enjoyable time by all and I will definitely be taking three teams next year, this time I want to bring back two trophies!
