Where to Study

Choosing the right university course for you can be very difficult and requires plenty of research.

You need to select up to 5 universities, from these 5 you will make a final choice of your favourite and an insurance choice. Remember you can only finalise your selections from universities that offer you a place.

Lots of books signifyingbg the need to research

Helpful Hints

  • Research the courses available and where they can be studied.
  • Start with the UCAS website course search pages:

                               UCAS COURSE SEARCH

  • Confused about all the different qualifications?  Click on the link:

What does that Qualification code mean?

  • When you have several courses to look at, check out the university and the course using one or more of the following websites:

The Independent - University Advice

  • Think carefully about the courses on offer.  Do you want to do a 3 year or 4 year course? A course that offers a placement in industry or abroad? A degree, a masters, an HND?
  • Do you mind if the university is campus or city based?  What are the advantages and how do they suit you?
  • Does the course have good employment prospects? Check the above websites on courses NOT to study!
  • Pay close attention to the costs involved - it is even more important to get your choices right as you will be paying for it!
  • Do you meet the entry criteria?  Be realistic, if the course requires a minimum ABB in your A'levels and you are predicted BCC, you are unlikely to be offered a place and hence are wasting a choice.
  • Does the course have an Entry Profile (EP) associated with it?  If so, check that you fit with their requirements.
  • Select a university and course for the right reasons - not just because your friend is applying there.
  • Attend open days or visit the city/town.  It is possible to get a gut feel for a place when visiting.  You will be possibly living there for several years, so it is worth the time and effort to visit.
