Is the question really - can you afford not to go to university?
The thought of financing university and a bill for £30,000 at the end of 3 years sounds frightening, but a few things to think about:-
No money is required up front, hence parents are not expected to foot the bill. However, please remember you may need a maintenance loan as well - the fees loan does not include day to day living expenses.
When you earn £25,000 p.a. you will be paying back £7 a week - half a Domino's pizza!
Only 40% of all graduates are expected to pay the whole loan back. Having a career break, gap year or family will mean a break from payments.
Your first mortgage is likely to be in excess of £200,000. How does the loan compare?
Current youth unemployment rates:-
20% unemployment for young people with 'A 'Levels or equivalent .
Less than 10% unemployment for graduates.
