Students will examine the ultimate questions in life such as:
- Who am I?
- Why am I here?
- Does God exist and what is s/he like?
Students will consider the ethical theories we use when we make decisions related to issues such as:
- Abortion
- Euthanasia
- Cloning
- Genetic Engineering
Students will also consider issues related to society today, such as the taking of human life in a war situation and whether this can be justified.
Philosophy and Theology at A and AS Level incorporates the same educational principles and standards as other A Level Arts subjects. As an academic qualification, it is welcomed by colleges and universities. Further study of the subject is possible with a wide range of courses in Philosophy, Ethics, Theology and Religious Studies available at degree level.
The course requires the student to think intelligently across a range of subject areas in order to develop literary and philosophical skills. They are required to organise material, assessing and evaluating its significance, whilst also being willing to present their own arguments and opinions supported by evidence.
At no point does the course aim to assess a candidate's personal beliefs, but rather their ability to analyse and evaluate their own position and the position of others.
