Introduction to Course
This is a stimulating, but demanding course covering many interesting areas of Physical Education through both theoretical and practical approaches. In Year 10, students have one theory lesson followed by a practical lesson; in Year 11, there is an additional practical lesson. This could lead to careers in Sport and Recreation Management, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Teaching, Leisure, Sports Science, Professional sports person.
Course Content
The theoretical part of the course is divided into three main sections:
- Factors affecting performance
- Health, training and safety
- Reasons and opportunities for participation in physical activity
Practical Activities
Students will participate in a wide variety of sports. They will be assessed by their teachers, but these marks will later be moderated by an external examiner. Each sport will be repeated in Year 11 so that students can improve their marks.
Students will also complete written analyses of their own or other's performances in each practical activity and suggest ways in which improvement could be achieved.
The four best games marks must be offered for assessment. At least one from each of the three categories of games:

- Individual basic skills/Techniques
- Tactics and team skills
- Basic rules/laws/regulations/safety procedures
Course Assessment
One two-hour paper 40% and continuous practical assessment 60% which is made up of:
Planning and evaluating: 10%
Performing: 40%
Analysing and improving: 10%
