The School Library

library_-_npThe school libraries at both campuses provide a great resource for students, jointly providing over 20,000 titles and 30 computers. The database is shared so books can be requested and quickly transferred between the two sites, typically on the next day.

Students are encouraged to use the Library to carry out research and homework assignments as well as of course reading for pleasure! They are also involved with running the library, helping on a rota basis during break and lunchtimes. A supervised after-school homework club runs from Monday to Thursday. Year 7 students receive a library induction and are encouraged to make use of the facilities.

Although computer games and mobile phones are not allowed we do have chess boards which prove most popular especially at lunchtime.

Initiatives such as Carnegie shadowing, the Man Booker Prize reading panel and lunchtime reading groups are also offered as well as author visits, themed weeks, competitions and activities.

Our aims

  • Continue to develop the resource provision and information services available to support the curriculum and student needs.
  • Encourage reading and the use of the Library as an essential part of the curriculum.
  • Make reading fun!
