The India Exchange - joint curriculum project

In April, 2006 we awarded Global Partnership grant from funds provided by the Department for International Development through the British Council. This money is to establish joint curriculum work between the schools which should become embedded in the syllabuses and development plans of both schools, and grows to include many students across many departments.
First Brian George (Geography) and Doug Abrams (ICT) visited India for two weeks in August 2006. They attended classes and Mr Abrams spent considerable time in the computer laboratory working on establishing the link between the schools using the Internet. Technologies used include webcams and web-based discussion boards. The work continued back in the UK when term started in September and we were then visited in October 2006 by Mr P.K. Dhiman (master of Computer Studies) and Mr B.M. Ahluwaliak (master in History and Civics).
Having experienced some of the systems of each others’ schools, the project was ready to begin. Year 8 students in each school are looking at the creation of waste in their home society and the methods of disposal. The work is developed in classes in Citizenship and Geography and students take their results into ICT lessons and post results on the message board to communicate with their counterparts in either England or India. These results will be discussed evaluated and we will develop policies of recycling and conservation for our schools to accept and adopt.
