History of the India Exchange Programme

1982

  • The first exchange established by Dermot George of the Central Bureau of Educational Visits and Exchanges, London.
  • January 1982, four weeks visit by English Students to India led by Brian George and David Crossley.
  • June 1982, visit of Indian students to England led by V.K. Verma and Mrs Bharadwaj

1984

  • January 1984, four weeks visit of English students to India, led by Brian George, Jan Lefevre and Janet English.
  • June 1984, visit of Indian students to England, led by K Sangwan and Mrs S Datta.

1986

  • January 1986, four weeks, visit of English students to India, led by Jon Mottershead and Kate Hickman.
  • June 1986, visit of Indian students to England, led by L.P. Goswami and Mrs M Ghosh.
  • 1986-87, Brian George invited to Motilal Nehru School of Sports as Guest Teacher, Geography.

1988

  • February 1988, 24 days visit of English students to India led Steve Riches and Jo Gore.
  • May 1988, host to the Drama Troupe of Motilal Nehru Schools of Sports, who toured English Schools with their production of Molière's "Don Juan", led by Alan Lewis.
  • June 1988, visit of Indian students to England led by D.N. Saksena, Mrs A Mehra and Mrs P Soni.

1990

  • February 1990, visit of English students to India for 25 days, led by Brian George and Jill Haynes.
  • June 1990, visit of Indian students to England led by C.P. Gehlaut and Mrs Raj Verma. Representatives from both schools met HRH Princess Anne to receive the Princess Anne award from Save the Children.

1992

  • January/February 1992, visit of English students to India for four weeks, led by Brian George and Jill Haynes.
  • June 1992, visit of Indian students to England led by S.G. Ghan. Representatives from both schools met HM the Queen to mark the 21st anniversary of the Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council.

1993

  • June 1993, Art exhibition held at The Church of Christ the Cornerstone, Central Milton Keynes. Attended by M.S. Gehlawat, the artist and art master of M.N.S.S.

1995

  • April 1995, visit of English students to India for three weeks, led by Brian George and Ruth Bull.
  • June/July 1995, visit of Indian students to England led by Colonel C.V. Venugopalan and Mrs Y Chhabra.

1996

  • On 16th March, a grand reunion of all past participants, held simultaneously in England and India to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council. Past exchangers met HM the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh at a reception in St James' Palace.

1997

  • April 1997, visit of English students for three weeks led by Brian George and Gillian Pont.
  • June/July 1997, visit of Indian students to the UK, led by Mrs S Malhotra.

1998

  • Visit to Ousedale School by George Foulkes MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of International Development.

1999

  • April 1999, visit of English students to India led by Brian George and Gillian Pont.
  • June/July 1999, visit of Indian students to the UK, led by Air Commodore C.M. Mundepi and Mrs S Thukral

2001

  • April 2001, visit of English students to India, led by Brian George and Michelle Davis
  • June 2001, visit of Indian students to the UK, led by Lieutenant Colonel D.V.S. Dahiya and Mrs Anita Yadav.

2003

  • April 2003, visit of English students to India, led by Brian George and Mrs Cristina Jiminez Durney.
  • November 2003, visit of Indian students to the UK, led by Mr P.K. Kalra and Mrs N.D. Chaudhry

2005

  • April 2005, visit of English students to India, led by Brian George and Ms. Samantha Willows.
  • July 2005, visit of Indian students to the UK, led by Captain (I.N.) V.K. Verma, Principal and Director, and Ma'm Moushumi Ghoshal.

2007

  • 2007 is the 25th Anniversary of the exchange. A party of students visited India in March 2007, led by Brian George and Mrs Cristina Jiminez Durney.
  • A group of Indian students visited the UK in September 2007.
