History is now widely acknowledged as providing students with transferable skills, not only useful for an understanding of the world today, but also essential for many areas in the job market. History Advanced Level increases your powers of argument, analysis and judgement and enables you to state a case coherently.
AS Consists of two modules:
- Life in Nazi Germany
- Britain 1815 -1865
Both modules are examined in June.
A2 consists of three modules (for 2008-9 only):
- Germany 1880 - 1980
- Britain 1880 - 1914
- The Holocaust
These are all examined at the end of Year 13
We employ a wide style of teaching approaches, ranging from note-taking to discussion, to the delivery of seminars and participation in group work. The focus is very much on exploring historical debates and controversies and reaching conclusions. To aid the study of this subject, the department runs regular conference trips to hear historians speak on key historical debates. A trip to Berlin is also organised which helps to further stimulate an interest in the subject.
The Learning Gateway provides students with a variety of websites that will aid exam revision and preparation. Click here to visit these links.
