Introduction to course
The GCSE Drama course offers the opportunity for students to gain practical and theoretical understanding of dramatic skills and forms which may be used to communicate with an audience. Through the course an appreciation of theatre and the development of self-expression, imagination and confidence will be encouraged. It is hoped that students of all abilities will be provided with the opportunity to achieve success at GCSE level, and also derive pleasure from and belief in their own work.
The course is hard work, both mentally and physically, but immensely enjoyable and rewarding.
Course Content
The course will include the use of mime, movement, role-play, script work, improvisation and physical theatre - all of which will be used to explore ideas, feelings and the culture around us. Much of this exploration will be polished to lead to a variety of performances including presentations to parents. Students are required to assess their Drama work in essay form.
Theatre visits will be organised. These will enrich student's understanding and appreciation of Drama and provide ideas for their own work.
Course Assessment
During Year 11, the course is examined in three parts:
Part 1: Improvisation: 40% - November
Part 2: Written Coursework: 20% - To be completed by Easter
Part 3: Rehearsed Presentation: 40% - Externally examined between March and May
