A Level Drama and Theatre Studies at Ousedale School
| Qualification | AS and A2 Level |
| Examining Board | AQA |
| Teacher In Charge | Mrs S Addison |
Anyone who has successfully completed GCSE Drama or been involved in productions as part of extra-curricular activities, will enjoy Theatre Studies A Level and its exciting balance of theoretical and practical work. This course provides opportunities for you to pursue particular aspects of study within the context and general knowledge of theatre, including acting or technical skills.
Influential practitioners will be examined and their theories brought to life through the students' own application. This includes the study of Constantine Stanislavski whose work on performance was used by the likes of Marilyn Munroe, Marlon Brando, Dustin Hoffman and Artaud's Theatre of Cruelty. Dramatic key texts, drawn from the great legacy of Western playwrights, will be analysed and performed to the public throughout the course.
Drama is a performed art. To engage with any dramatic work, a Theatre Studies student will be expected to always consider TEXT, PRODUCTION and AUDIENCE RECEPTION. These three things are always interwoven. The course requires enthusiasm and commitment but not necessarily actors; other areas of specialism may well include directing, set/costume design and lighting.
Theatre Studies is accepted by ALL Universities for most courses. Many past students have gone on to study courses as diverse as Medicine, TV Broadcasting, Pure Performing Arts and Journalism.
