School Discipline
We hope that parents will join our tutors and subject teachers in developing in our students those qualities of personal responsibility and self-discipline which will allow us to continue to be a happy and hardworking school. At the start of their time here children will have explained to them the reasons for our clear and simple rules.
CODE OF CONDUCT
All members of Ousedale School will make sure that their words, actions and behaviour show respect for the feelings and happiness of other people. At all times we will do our best to co-operate with others and to take care of the buildings and site where we work.
We want all members of the school to enjoy their learning, to be safe and to have their property protected.
BULLYING will not be tolerated - governors wholeheartedly support the school's anti-bullying policy and the sanctions imposed on persistent bullies. However, we are always delighted that the great majority of our students need very few reminders and little correction. Within the classroom the subject teacher has responsibility for ensuring good order and the school will support teachers in the imposition of any reasonable punishment if this is felt necessary. Such sanctions may include a written exercise or some socially useful task or a break or lunch time detention. Persistent lateness will result in an hour's detention after school on Thursdays.
Where staff propose detaining a student after school they are expected to give at least 24 hours notice via the student to parents. Sometimes where there is a general problem a child may be put 'on report' by a Head of Year. Serious problems may result in a fixed term exclusion from school. In extreme cases it may be necessary for Governors to be asked to support permanent exclusion from school.
