All students will study one Design and Technology option.
The Design and Technology Course is both creative and technical. It is relevant to the consumer society you live in and encourages you to make informed choices. The course will enable you to design and make products and at the same time you will be developing a range of skills that will be useful in other subjects that you are studying and in employment.
At Key Stage 3 you have had experience of working on focussed practical tasks with a range of materials and you have carried out design and make tasks which have been supported by design folders. The GCSE in Design and Technology allows you to decide which material area you feel best suites your own particular skills and interests. You have a choice of:
- Food Technology
- Graphic Products
- Textiles Technology
- Resistant Materials Technology
When making your decision we ask that you select a first and a second option in, due to the availability of teachers, resources and specialist accommodation, we are unable to guarantee your first choice.
From your chosen material area you will be involved in the study of:
- Materials and components
- Production processes
- Industrial practice
- Social, moral, ethical and environmental issues of product design
- Product analysis
- Designing and making processes
You will produce products and design portfolios and be examined on your knowledge and understanding in your chosen material area.
