Careers Education and Guidance at Ousedale School

This is seen as an essential part of a student's education.

The purpose of Careers Education and Guidance at Ousedale School is to:

  • Enable students to plan and manage the progression in learning and work
  • Fulfil the requirements "to prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life" (section 351, 1996 Education Act) and "to provide Careers Education for Years 9-11" (Section 43,1997 Education Act)
  • Help all of our students to develop the skills and acquire the knowledge necessary for them to participate confidently in a rapidly changing society
  • Contributing to raising overall standards of achievement by motivating students and helping them to make the sensible choices

This is achieved through:

  • An Integrated Careers Education and Guidance Programme, currently delivered as a discrete subject in Years 9 and 11
  • Working in partnership with Buckinghamshire Careers Services and the local education Business partnership
  • Future plans to develop a coherent programme of study in Year 8 based on the delivery of the "Real Game", a skills for life programme
  • Provide community linked and work related activities in careers education and guidance
  • Contributing to the values of personal, social and health education within the school
