Business Studies at Ousedale School
Business and Enterprise
Why choose Business?
We believe that studying Business at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 is a very good foundation for any career choice later. Skills and knowledge gained in Business Studies will be very valuable in whatever you choose to do later in life.
All private sector businesses share the same objectives and have some common structure in the way they are organised. Similarly, with public sector organisations who, whilst have different “customers”, are still accountable for what they do and what they hope to achieve.
Business Studies provides a broad introduction to the business sector and should encourage students to develop skills, knowledge and understanding in realistic business contexts.
Looking at the ways in which both individual entrepreneurs and companies, both small and large, have achieved success will enable you to identify traits and characteristics needed. Whether we are looking at what Sir Richard Branson has achieved or the small, local corner shop, the principles are the same.
Successful businesses are based on recognising a need and satisfying that need profitably.
We like to encourage our students not only to learn about Business but to also have an opportunity to actually organise a small business and experience both the excitement and the frustrations of being your own boss.
We achieve this through “Enterprise Activities” both within our Business Studies’ programmes and through our specialist contribution of a separate qualification entitled “Developing Enterprising Capabilities” which is a new course offered at Key Stage 4.
