Admission Of New Students Years 7 & 8
Children Joining Us During The Course Of A School Year
If you are coming to live within the area you are asked to make a written application to Mr Burton, Deputy Head. Consideration will be given to parental preference but should Ousedale have reached its PAL (Published Admission Limit) for that year group, the LEA will offer a place at the nearest school with places available. Parents have the right to make a formal appeal against any decision of non-admission.
Should a place be available you will be contacted to arrange a suitable appointment with Mrs Wilkins – at that point we will discuss your child’s courses with you, agree a date for starting and decide which form your child is to join, so that on the first morning at school he or she will be met at the school by the Form Tutor.
Prospective Sixth Form students should contact the Head of Sixth Form.
ADMISSIONS CRITERIA
The Governing Body allocates places in the following order of priority:
1. Pupils for whom the school is first preference.
2. Pupils who live in the area served by the school - the ‘defined’ area. Proof of residence may be required.
Within this criterion children who have a SEN statement will generally be given priority over other applications.
3. Pupils with an older brother or sister still in attendance at the time of admission.
4. Pupils attending a middle or combined school which is in the school’s ‘defined’ area.
5. Children with exceptional medical or social needs whose parents can demonstrate that admission to Ousedale is necessary for the medical and social well-being of their child and whose application is supported by written evidence.
6. In the event of over subscription, once places have been allocated under the criteria above, any remaining places will be awarded according to the proximity of the child’s main residence to Ousedale as measured by the shortest available route. This is from the front door of the child’s home to the school’s nearest entrance gate.
