European Law

In January 1973 the United Kingdom joined the European Economic Community (EEC).  We now recognise this as the European Union and the impact that it had on the UK in terms of Sovereignty and the law making powers we had, this is an essential change that must be recognised in order to fully appreciate the English Legal System that will be studied in the second module. Additionally there are many similarties to be admired in the way in which the agencies of the European Union operate and the way the House of Parliament and Government organise our legal system.

A breakdown of the topic:

a) The Institutions of the European Union

b) The European Court of Justice

c) European sources of law

d) Conflict between European Law and National Law

Assessment:

You will be assessed on this topic in line with OCR standards.  The assessment will be a past paper question.  This question will test your knowledge and application of that knowledge to AS Level exam standard. Click here to access the question.
