Civil Courts
In this topic students will examine the mechanics of the civil courts. Civil courts deal with relations between individuals including business; for example a plumber who you contracted to complete a new bathroom has only completed half the work but has had all the money - what do you do? Or two business have entered into a contract and now one of them has broken some of the original agreed terms. This area also covers those instances where a personal injury has been suffered and a compensation claim is made. Students will need to look carefully at the workings of the machinery of justice in a civil arena including the effects of the Woolf reforms of 1999 and the impact they had in the small claims process that everyday individuals may use to resolve their complaints.
